Extremely Heavy Rainfalls to Impact Chhattisgarh

Raipur | Correspondent: The India Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy rainfall across several regions, including Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam and Karnataka.

In response to potentially hazardous conditions, the IMD has issued an ‘orange alert’ for Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamilnadu and Odisha.

Meanwhile, Delhi is classified in the ‘green zone’ for the next six days, indicating no severe weather threats, though light rain and cloudy skies are expected to persist.

On sunday heavy rainfall with thunderstorms is expected in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Fairly widespread to widespread rain with isolated thunderstorms is likely across the Northeast, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Kerala.

Scattered showers with isolated lightning are forecast for Punjab, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Andaman-Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep.

Ladakh may see isolated rain and snow, while temperatures may reach 40°C or higher in parts of West Rajasthan.

Five Day nationwide forecast: Heavy Rainfalls

A depression is currently situated over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, near the Odisha coast. It is expected to move west-northwestward, crossing Odisha this morning before gradually weakening.

An east-west shear zone is positioned around 20°N.

Due to these conditions, heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms is likely over East Maharashtra, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh through early Sunday.

Isolated areas in Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and East Maharashtra may experience extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 200 mm, posing risks of flooding, river rises, and landslides.

An offshore trough from South Gujarat to Kerala is causing heavy rains along the Maharashtra and Goa coasts, expected to continue through Sunday.

The trough’s activity may ease briefly but could intensify again by Tuesday.

A lower-level trough over the Northeast will bring isolated heavy rain to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh today.

Temperatures will remain cooler than average across northwestern and southeastern India over the next few days, while parts of West Rajasthan may experience temperatures around 40°C.
