New Delhi | Desk: AG Noorani, India’s esteemed Constitutional expert, Human Rights Scholar, and Political analyst passed away at the age of 93.
Born on 1930 in Bombay (now Mumbai) Abdul Gafoor Abdul Majeed Noorani began his initial studies at St. Marry School and later completed his graduation from a government Law College Mumbai.
Noorani started his legal career in 1953, practicing as an advocate at Bombay High Court.
Throughout his life Noorani devoted his significant time writing about the legal, Political, and Historical issues.
His sharp intellect and profound understanding of legal matters made him a prominent commentator of Indian politics and Jurisprudence.
Noorani was a regular contributor to leading publications like Economic and Political Weekly, The Hindustan Times, and The Statesman.
As an author, Noorani wrote several influential books on Indian Constitutional Law, Politics, History offering insightful perspectives on these subjects.
Some of his notable works includes The Kashmir Question (1964), Ministers Misconduct (1973), Constitutional Question and Citizens Rights (2006), and The RSS: A Menace to India (2019).
Noorani was well-known for his strong advocacy, civil liberties and secularism. He was a vocal critic of those laws that he believed violated fundamental rights.
Although he never held any official position. Noorani’s opinions were highly respected in legal and political circles. His insights were often sought on constitutional matters, and his writings were frequently cited in academic works and Supreme Court judgments.
