Jawan Denied Chilli, Opens Fire on Colleagues; Two Killed

Balrampur | Correspondent: On Wednesday, a CAF jawan opened fire on his colleagues in Chhattisgarh’s Balrampur-Ramanujganj district. Initial reports suggest that the jawan was upset after being denied chilli during the meal.

Two jawans lost their lives in the shooting, while one was injured. One jawan died instantly at the scene, and the other succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital. The injured jawan has been referred to Ambikapur for further treatment.

The incident took place at a CAF camp in Bhutahi, within the Samari police station limits, where the 11th battalion of CAF is stationed. Around noon on Wednesday, jawan Ajay Sidar, who was posted at the camp, suddenly opened fire on his fellow soldiers with his service rifle.

Witnesses say that the altercation began when Ajay Sidar, while eating, requested chilli from a colleague serving food. The colleague refused, leading to an argument. Reportedly, guard commander Ambuj Shukla supported the decision not to provide chilli, further aggravating Sidar.

In a fit of rage, Ajay Sidar abandoned his meal, grabbed his INSAS rifle, and began firing indiscriminately. Sandeep Pandey, Rupesh Patel, and guard commander Ambuj Shukla were hit by the bullets.

Rupesh Patel died at the scene, while Sandeep Pandey passed away en route to the hospital. Ambuj Shukla, who sustained injuries to both legs, was given first aid at Kusmi Health Center before being referred to Ambikapur.

Upon receiving news of the incident, Balrampur SP Rajesh Agarwal rushed to the scene. Initial reports suggest the altercation stemmed from the refusal to provide chilli during the meal. The jawan responsible for the shooting has been taken into custody.
