Maoists kill three villagers in Bijapur and Sukma

Bijapur | Correspondent: Maoists killed three villagers and assaulted several others on Friday, accusing them of being police informers in two different incidents.

One in the Gangalur area of Bijapur district and the other in Sukma district.

In Bijapur, the attack occurred after villagers were abducted and taken into the forest, where the insurgents held a Jan Adalat (kangaroo court).

This incident coincided with Chhattisgarh police officials encountering 32 Maoists in the neighboring Narayanpur district on the same day.

Two days prior, Maoists had kidnapped 20 to 25 villagers from Savnaar village in Patelpara, under the Gangalur police station limits, and brought them to the forested areas.

During the Jan Adalat, the villagers’ mobile phones were confiscated, and they were brutally beaten before being released.

On Friday night, the Maoists executed two individuals: Kameshwar Kursam, also known as Motu Kursam (25), son of Mangu Kursam, and Arjun Punem (25), son of Somlu Punem, both residents of the same village.

Relatives of the deceased have taken the bodies back home. However, no official confirmation of the incident was available at the time of this report, as the case had not yet been registered with the authorities.

Investigations into the recent killings are ongoing.

The other incident in Sukma was confirmed by Sukma Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nikhil Rakhecha, who has initiated an investigation to uncover further details surrounding the case.

The victim is reportedly resident of Barse Era Pedakodkel.

Previous Incidents of Executions During Jan Adalat

Similar incidents have occurred in the region before.

Recently, maosists executed two villagers in Jappemarka, Bhairamgarh, following a Jan Adalat accusing them of being police informers.

In another case, a villager named Situ Madvi was killed in Jagur, and elderly Lancha Punem was murdered in Gaytapara Saonar by the insurgents.
