One-Third drop in tribal scholarship recipients

Raipur | Correspondent: In Chhattisgarh the number of tribal children benefitting from the scheme of Pre-Matric scholarships has significantly dropped.

Over the past five years the number of students receiving scholarships from the central government is declined by one-third.

In the academic year 2019-20, a total of 1,41,727 beneficiaries availed the scholarships.

However, this number plummeted to 43,995 in the academic year 2023-24.

Tribal Minster Durgadas Uikey provided the answer during the Rajya Sabha session in response to the question posed.

He emphasized the necessity for states to complete the application process, its verification and the disbursal within the same academic year.

Many states, however, fail to meet these deadlines, resulting in the process being carried over to the next year.

According to the shared figures, in the year academic year 2019-20, the Central Government allocated funds Rs 2853.46 benefitting 1,41,727 children.

In the year 2020-21, the allocation deceased to 2668.04 benefitting 1,32,420.

The following year 2021-22, saw a further decline to Rs 2174.24 with 1,29,615 children benefitting.

In 2022-23, the scholarship children received Rs 2393.01 lakh, but only 28,479 children benefited from the scheme.

Furthermore, Rs 682.75 lakh was allocated in the year 2023-24 to support 43,995.

Lowest Post-matric scholarship beneficiaries last year

Number of Post Matric students in the year 2019-20 was recorded 1,43,746 for which the Central government had allocated Rs 5710.43 lakhs.

In the year 2020-21, the number of beneficiaries dropped by 1,02,501 and the amount released was Rs 6023.73 lakhs.

Whereas in 2021-22 the beneficiaries was 1,67,525 and the allocation of amount was Rs 5119.26 lakhs.

In 2022-23 the number of students was 1,16,619 and to benefit them the allocation amount released was Rs 7305.66 lakhs.

In the academic year 2023-24, the Central government allocated an amount of Rs 4030.44 lakhs to benefit 1,15,386 students.

Only One beneficiary could experience Foreign travel in five years

State government allocates an amount for the students or researchers to go to abroad for their higher education since 2019.

Only one tribal student from the state could get a chance for higher studies in abroad in these five years.

Since 2019 to 2024, the one beneficiary of the National Overseas Scholarship was selected in the year 2021-22.

According to the details revealed, a total of 66 scheduled tribe beneficiaries could make it for higher studies in abroad.
