Raipur | Correspondent: Amidst the protests of tribals in Chhattisgarh’s Hasdeo Aranya, preparations have begun to chop down the trees spread in an area of more than 74 hectares for the second phase of PEKB mine.
Meanwhile, Supreme Court was also notified about the tree-cutting activities related to this case.
Hundreds of police officers were deployed on Friday morning for the tree-cutting in Hasdeo Aranya. Villagers from the affected area organized a rally to protest against the deforestation.
A large number of tribal women and youth participated in the rally.
The tribals claimed that all approvals were based on fake Gram Sabha meetings.
The Wildlife Institute of India has also warned of severe human-elephant conflicts if even a single mine is opened.
The tribals also mentioned that the state assembly had unanimously passed a resolution to cancel all the mining activities in Hasdeo.
Despite this, the tree felling continues which they find horrific.
There was also clash that took place among the protesting tribals and the deployed police personnel.
Subsequently, all the protestors were taken into custody, loaded onto buses, and transported to a school in Darima.

Alok Shukla of Chhattisgarh Bachao Andolan, who was present at the scene, stated to benefit Adani Chhattisgarh’s forests are being destroyed.
Collector and Superintendent of Police (SP), arrived at the location announced that a meeting has been scheduled at the Collectorate to discuss about the issue in detail.
Two cases concerning of Hasdeo Aranya are still pending in the Supreme Court.
One case involves approval of Parsa East Kete Basan mine, while the other case involves the cancellation of community forest rights of Ghatbarra.
Advocate Prashant Bhushan and Chandar Uday raised this issue before the Chief Justice on Friday.
It is anticipated that this case may be heard on Monday.
