New Delhi | Desk: Vinesh Phogat announced her retirement from Wrestling following her disqualification in the final of the 50 kg category at the Olympics due to mere 100 g higher weight.
After missing out on the final of Paris Olympics, Vinesh took to the social media platform to share her emotions.
She tweeted, “Mom, wrestling won but I lost. Forgive me, your dream, my courage, all are broken.
I don’t have any more strength left. Goodbye, wrestling. I will always be indebted to all of you. Sorry.”
In response, fellow wrestler Sakshi Malik expressed her support on social media, saying, “Vinesh, you did not lose.
Every daughter for whom you fought and won has lost. This is the defeat of the whole country of India.
The country is with you. Salute to your struggle and passion as a player.”
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini also voiced his support, announcing that Vinesh Phogat will be welcomed and honored like a medalist.
He stated, “All the respect, rewards, and facilities that the Haryana government gives to an Olympic silver medalist will be gratefully given to Vinesh Phogat as well.”
